How to Spruce Up Your Skincare Routine for Fall
I don't know about you, but when the weather changes, my skin starts to misbehave. I get more breakouts as well as lovely flaky patches. With fall in full swing (in parts of the country, not necessarily here in Texas yet), there are a few changes to your skincare routine that will help ease your skin into the cooler temperatures.
- Cleanser – It is probably time to change from an oil-reducing foaming cleanser to a gentler milky one. If you already use a milky cleanser, you might want to look at cream cleansers during these harsher winter months.
- Moisturizer – You probably will also want to increase the density of your moisturizer. If you use a gel, try a lotion. If you already use a lotion, try a cream.
- Exfoliate – Now more than ever, your skin will appreciate a thorough yet gentle exfoliator to help ease off those drier surface skin cells. Removing that outer layer will help your treatments and moisturizers do their job.
- Masking – Masks are a great way to boost the effectiveness of your other skincare products, same as an exfoliator. A rich cream moisturizing mask can really make the difference if your oily or combination skin is starting to behave more like dry skin.
- Serums – These lightweight booster products can really make a difference. Adding a Vitamin C serum can help even out skin tone while a retinol serum can help with uneven texture and fine lines.
Truthfully, while it sounds nice to use the same regime all the time, it is not realistic. Your skin reacts to external environmental changes as well as internal physical changes such as hormones. And most of all, listen to your skin. It will tell you very clearly what it needs and wants.
