How to Soothe Irritated Skin

Remember that flakiness we just talked about? That is usually a sign of irritated skin. If you suspect that your flakes could be more than simple irritation, please do consult your dermatologist. However, if it is just reacting to the change of the seasons, perhaps we can help!

Years ago, when I started getting those flaky spots, my first reaction was to scrub them away. Since I have gotten older and more experienced, my skin does not take kindly to the \”tough love\” approach. The blunt answer is, scrubbing seems to make it more irritated.

However, I have learned that gentle cleansing, kind yet thorough exfoliation, and deep moisturizing really does help. I recently had a bout with said roughness and flakiness, and I was able to fight the urge to scrub it all away.

My current regimen seems to be working very well, so I thought I would share it as the weather changes across the country!

  • I am currently removing my eye makeup with Boots Botanics All-Bright Micellar Water because it works so well and does not irritate the sensitive eye area.
  • After removing my eye makeup, I have been cleansing with Bobbi Brown Extra Balm Rinse. It works like a cleansing oil or balm in that you massage it onto dry skin and then steam/rinse it away along with all of your makeup. It leaves my skin soft and smooth and ready for treatment. Using a warm washcloth serves as my exfoliation as well.
  • I have been following my cleansing step with the Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Serum and the Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream, a duo that has really taken care of my poor complexion. My skin did not like the eye cream or the face oil from this line though.
